Hey guys, I'm a relatively new woodworker, so my apologies if this is something super simple.
Anyway, I'm not sure why this is happening, but I have a project with some exposed end grain curly maple. The entire board finishes beautifully, but for some reason, the end grain on the curly maple has an almost grey / dirty appearance. To make sure I didn't actually something dirty on the grain, I sanded it all the way back to raw wood, then sanded gently from 80,100,150,220,320. Wood looked normal, but before I got the finish on (using Osmo Polyx), it started to have the same grey / dirty look to it. To make sure it wasn't just the board, I tried another stick, freshly cut and got the same issue.
I even tried using different types of sand paper, cleaning with rubbing alcohol, and using a compressor to clear out any dust. Still the same thing!
Any ideas why this is happening?
Thanks :)
